Community Well Development Project
Tintilou, Burkina Faso

Burkino Fasa in Western Africa International Rural Water Association (IRWA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization specializing in water purification projects in rural areas worldwide, is accepting donations for the installation of a drinking water well and hand pump in Tintilou, Burkina Faso.  Tintilou is a small village in Burkina Faso in western Africa.  Currently villagers are using a hand dug shallow well which is subject to contamination and dries up during the dry season forcing the women of the village to walk several miles to another water source.

The current well is serving approximately 40 households.  There is no electric in the village but the villagers would be very happy to have a well with a hand pump to provide safe water in place of their current well.

IRWA has assessed the need on site and found the project to be low risk from a technical and political standpoint.  Groundwater is available in the region and the community is very open and excited about the prospects of a new well.  Bids have been received from local well drillers and we have found the well construction techniques are professional and will result in a safe supply of drinking water.  Costs for the project are $14,000 US.
