Partnering with Locals

In Guatemala, IRWA works together with its local partner, Agua Para La Salud (APLS), to ensure that communities and schools have access to clean water, adequate sanitation and hand-washing facilities. In every community we carry out an individual needs assessment to determine the most effective, appropriate and sustainable solution.  In Guatemala, APLS has have also joined forces with a number of international NGOs such as Water for People, Global Water, Peerwater Exchange, and the Peace Corps Healthy Schools Projects to implement life-saving water projects.  Our goal is to keep the water flowing!

Installing Clean Water Technology

Our circuit riders and masons work with communities to install rain water collectors, septic tanks, hand washing stations, latrine complexes, chlorination systems, and combined water systems.  Our goal is to design innovative, effective clean water systems and to educate community members to make sure that these systems are well maintained, managed, and administered.

Restoring Clean Water After Natural Disasters.

In June 2010, in the wake of extensive flooding and mudslides, IRWA, with the help of USA Bluebook and the Florida Rural Water Association, were able to raise $10,000 in emergency funding to fix broken water systems in 5 communities in Northern Guatemala. All repairs will be overseen by Agua Para La Salud, IRWA’s local partners. ÔÇ¿
